<div class="section1"><div class="Normal">PUNE: The ongoing investigations by the city police into the <a href="articleshow?artid=298227" target="_blank">CAT test</a> paper leakage have revealed that Anamika Singh, one of the seven arrested in the city, is one of the key conspirators.<br /><br />Police sources said initially, they were not clear about the role played by Anamika, a 22-year-old first-year student of the Pune Institute of Computer Technology-School of Information Technology and Management at Dhankawadi.<br /><br />Hailing from Ranchi, her role as a <a href="articleshow?artid=302085" target="_blank">key conspirator</a> in the Pune operations emerged after the police tapped a phone call from another key conspirator, Chandan, alias Baba, to ‘Cherri’ (Preet Raman) and the other accused in the early hours of Monday.

It was she who tied up with the others and was in charge of the Pune operations,� the sources said. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">The police described her as girlfriend of Chandan, who is among the main conspirators. The city police have sought Chandan’s criminal record and details of his whereabouts from the <a href="articleshow?artid=302097" target="_blank">Delhi police</a>. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">Sources said Chandan had been in the city in the recent past and knew all the accused and had told them to help Anamika in the operation. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">According to the police, Preet Raman, alias ‘Cherri’, a 23-year-old fourth-year computer engineering student at the Maharashtra Institute of Technology, was made the “second-incommand� to assist Anamika with ground operations, such as collecting fax, transferring data and storing it in a computer, besides handing over <a href="articleshow?artid=318303" target="_blank">the paper</a> to prospective buyers.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">While Anamika had been denying involvement in selling the leaked papers, Chandan had asked Cherri to pay Anamika her share of Rs 30,000 and had also directed him to give his share of Rs 1 lakh to her. This revealed her involvement in the scam.</span><br /><br /></div> </div><div class="section2"><div class="Normal">On Wednesday, a threemember police team conducted searches at an undisclosed shop and at another place where Anamika and Cherri transferred data on to a CD. Cherri accompanied the police team to the place.<br /><br />When the police conducted a raid at Kothrud in the presence of a Times of India team on Sunday morning, Anamika, wearing jeans and a black T-shirt, was with Cherri. <br /><br />While Cherri was nabbed when he called in the team and said, “only the person who has money should come with him,� Anamika, who was speaking on a mobile phone in the parking lot of Mauli apartments, panicked as one of the policemen took possession of her phone.<br /><br />She was then asked to lead the team to their apartment in the building.<br /><br />Anamika initially denied any knowledge of the racket, but began co-operating after a stern warning by the police officials.<br /><br />The police on Wednesday declined to divulge whether the data was transferred at someone’s residence or at a cyber cafe.</div> </div>
